"The Good, The Bad, The Goa'uld" is a single-session adventure for the Stargate SG-1 RPG that uses a modified version of the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition rules. The players are new recruits to the Phoenix Site, an off-world Stargate program dedicated to training freedom fighters to combat the Goa'uld. Their first mission takes them to a remote, fungi-based planet called P-4368, where a MALP has been unable to make contact with the locals through a seemingly impenetrable door. The adventure is a psychological gauntlet where the PCs must navigate a series of dream-like scenarios created by the planet's paranoid inhabitants to prove their intentions are honorable before they are deemed worthy of contact.
The adventure begins with the player characters, recruits to the Phoenix Site, being briefed on their first mission by General Loyer. They are tasked with traveling to the planet P-4368 to investigate a seemingly impenetrable door and make contact with the people on the other side. Upon arriving through the Stargate, the party finds themselves in a dimly lit, fungi-filled cavern with a mysterious metal door and a table holding a riddle and five colored vials of liquid. The door has no apparent hinges or locking mechanism and shows signs of having been blasted and struck numerous times. To open it, the players must solve the riddle and drink the blue-colored liquid, which represents inner peace. Drinking other colors will result in penalties to their stats.
After the door opens, the players enter a dream-like state controlled by the planet's inhabitants. They are thrust into a chase through a mine, where they hear a man yelling, "NO! Don't take them! That's all I have!". The man, a miner, urges them to pursue a robber who has stolen his gold. If the players chase the robber, they can capture him and learn that a local figure, "Red Jack," is behind a series of raids. The miner and robber both claim not to know about the Stargate, as they have not been that deep into the mines. This leads the party to the town of Goldplains, where they must convince a suspicious sheriff that they are not part of Red Jack's gang. The sheriff eventually enlists their help to defend the town against a raid by Red Jack and his gang.
The climax of the adventure is a final confrontation with Red Jack and his gang at the town's gate. After the battle, the players wake up back in the Stargate chamber with a splitting headache, realizing the whole experience was a dream. If they succeeded in proving their honor and intentions, a person in Victorian-era clothing, Chairman Corvallen, greets them and reveals that the entire scenario was a test. The people of Adoni, as they call themselves, have been repeatedly attacked by the Goa'uld and developed a gas to put visitors into a dream-filled sleep where they can be tested. If the players are deemed worthy, the people of Adoni are open to forming a relationship with the Phoenix Site; otherwise, they remain hidden.
